Two FTTH awards and the Charles Kao Award will be presented at the FTTH Virtual Conference on Thursday 3rd December 2020
The FTTH Awards recognise the outstanding support of an operator and an individual that have actively contributed to the acceleration of FTTH in Europe.
Winners will be announced at the FTTH Virtual Conference 2020 from 3.15 CET on Thursday 3rd December 2020.
This award is given to an operator company that has made a clear decision in favour of FTTH in Europe. The winner will be selected not only based on the size of the network and investment made but also on factors such as the economic, political and competitive environment for driving FTTH roll-out.
This award honours an individual for the special efforts made to enable FTTH in Europe. The nominee can be a manager who has made a clear decision to support FTTH roll-out; a technician for implementing a new technology solution for FTTH or a decision maker who has contributed to creating a favourable environment for FTTH.
The Charles Kao Award, was established in 2019 by the FTTH Council Europe in honour of fibre pioneer Professor Sir Charles Kuen Kao who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2009 for "ground-breaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibres for optical communication”. This award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding life-long achievement and contribution to promoting full fibre connectivity (globally, but particularly in Europe). The first recipient of the award in 2019, Greg Mesch, Chief Executive Officer of CityFibre, the UK’s leading alternative builder of full fibre infrastructure.
